Packing list

What to carry in, what stays in the locker. Pulled from the current ASQ (American Society for Quality) CQI (Certified Quality Inspector) page and Prometric ASQ rules. Confirm before you sit — they can change.

Must have

• One valid, government-issued photo ID with a signature. The name must match your application.
• Arrive about 30 minutes early. Late arrival can forfeit the fee.
• Bound references only: stitched, glued, ring, spiral, or fasteners that go through the pages. Hand-stapled stacks and unbound notes are not allowed. Post-it tabs are allowed if they are already on the book when you walk in.
• A silent, hand-held, battery calculator with no programmable memory (TI-30Xa / TI-30XS are the usual shop choices). Graphing / programmable / CAS (computer algebra system) machines are out. Prometric also has an on-screen scientific calculator and can lend a basic hand-held if you ask.

Tab these before you leave the house

• Formula and conversion sheet and the GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) field card — print them, bind them, mark them in your hand. Print both as one packet.
• The ASQ Certified Quality Inspector Handbook, Fourth Edition (ISBN 9781636941646), aligned to the 2025 Body of Knowledge. Buy from ASQ Quality Press (H1639).
• These academy notes, if you bound them. Open book rewards people who already know the tab.

Leave in the locker

• Phone, tablet, smartwatch, bags. You keep ID and the locker key.
• Unbound notes, blank tablets, slide charts / wheel charts.
• Programmable calculators (TI-89 class and similar).

They provide

• Scratch paper and pencils at the center.
• On-screen basic scientific calculator on computer-based exams.

Money and timing (confirm live)

• First attempt about $460 non-member; members save $100. Retake about $260.
• Change the appointment at least five days ahead. There is a $130 change fee. No-show loses the exam fee.
• Apply at asq.org/cert/apply.

Bound books, a non-programmable calculator, a matching photo ID, and show up early. If this list disagrees with ASQ or Prometric on test day, they win.
